Know Your Business (KYB) verification is a regulatory requirement that allows Altitude to confirm your company's identity, ownership structure, and legitimacy. This process is required for all businesses that want to use Altitude's products and services, including stablecoin payments, treasury management, and card programs (coming soon).
Create your Altitude account
Visit Altitude's website and click "Create account." Enter your business email, confirm it via the verification link sent to your inbox, then sign in using the one-time password (OTP) provided.
Name your workspace and provide your legal entity name to complete initial setup. Once inside, you'll be prompted to start KYB verification.
Find your company
The first screen asks for your country of registration, state/province (if applicable), and company name. The system will search public corporate registries to find your company automatically.
If your company is found: Select it from the search results. Your registration details (country, state, registration number) will be pre-filled.
If your company is not found: Click "Enter company data manually" to enter your details by hand.
You can also choose "Continue on phone" if you prefer to complete verification from a mobile device.
Company information
Provide your company's details. All fields below are required unless marked as optional.
Country and state: Where your company is registered. For US entities, the state of incorporation (e.g., Delaware) is required.
File number: Your state registration or file number. This can be found on registration documents from the registrar, such as your Certificate of Incorporation.
Phone number (optional): A business phone number. If no general business number exists, a direct number for a founder, officer, or authorized representative is acceptable.
Company email: Your company's official email address.
Registered address: Street address, city, and post code. Must be a physical address. P.O. Boxes and virtual offices are not accepted.
Business questionnaire
Next, you'll answer a series of questions about your business. This is the most detailed step.
Business Identity
Entity type: Corporation, LLC, Partnership, Sole Proprietorship, Trust, DAO, Cooperative, Nonprofit, or Foundation. This determines which documents you'll need to upload later.
Business website: Your company's official website URL.
Business registration number type: For US entities, select "Employer Identification Number (EIN)." For non-US entities, select the identification type that matches your country (TIN, registration number, etc.).
Identification number: Your EIN (e.g., XX-XXXXXXX) for US entities, or your country's equivalent tax or business ID number.
DAO status: Indicate whether your entity is a DAO.
US Entity Requirement: US entities must provide an Employer Identification Number (EIN). If you don't have one yet, you can apply online at irs.gov. Non-US entities should provide their country's TIN (Tax Identification Number) or equivalent registration number.
Business Description and Industry
Business industry (NAICS code): Select the industry classification that best matches your business. You can search by keyword.
Business description: A clear, concise description of what your company does, the products or services you offer, and how you generate revenue. Be specific. This helps accelerate your review.
Operations and Geography
Operating address: Your principal business operating address. May differ from your registered address.
Counterparty countries: The countries where your customers or business partners are located.
Target market: Whether you primarily serve retail consumers (B2C), businesses or institutional clients (B2B), or both.
A physical business operating address is required. P.O. boxes and virtual addresses are not accepted. If your registered address is a P.O. box or virtual address, provide a UBO's residential address instead.
Financial Profile
Estimated annual revenue: Select the range that best matches your current or projected annual revenue.
Source of funds: Where the money used on the platform will come from. Common examples include business revenue, VC or investment funding, and sales of goods and services.
Primary account purpose: How you plan to use Altitude (e.g., business purchases and expenses, payroll, treasury management).
Expected monthly volume: Estimated monthly transaction amount in USD.
Expected monthly transactions: Estimated number of transactions per month.
Amount raised (optional): Total funding raised to date, if applicable.
Team size (optional): Number of employees or team members.
Last year's revenue/turnover: Your actual revenue from the previous financial year.
Estimated current year turnover: Your projected revenue for the current financial year.
Compliance Disclosures
High-risk activities: Whether your business conducts money services, lending, holds client funds, or provides third-party payment processing. Answer honestly. Disclosure does not automatically disqualify you, but failure to disclose may.
Licensing: Whether your business holds any financial, regulatory, or sector-specific licenses.
Upload business documents
Based on the entity type you selected, you'll be directed to upload the specific documents required for your business. Accepted file formats include PDF, JPEG, and PNG. Make sure documents are legible and not expired.
Formation documents should include your legal entity name, registration number, and be filed/stamped by the relevant government authority. Accepted documents include a Certificate of Incorporation, Articles of Organization, Partnership Agreement, or equivalent.
Ownership documents must clearly show all shareholders or members and their ownership percentages. Accepted documents include a shareholder registry, cap table, operating agreement, or similar document that accounts for 100% of ownership. Self-generated documents should be signed by a verified control person (e.g., CEO) or by a lawyer or CPA.
Proof of business activity should demonstrate that your business is operational. Accepted documents include an invoice, contract, or commercial agreement with your customers, dated within the last 6 months.
Proof of address must show your business's physical operating address, dated within the last 3 months. Accepted documents include a utility bill, bank statement, or government correspondence. Virtual addresses are not accepted. If your company operates remotely, you may use the residential address of one of the UBOs.
Tax ID verification (US entities ONLY) is handled automatically via EIN lookup. In some cases, we may request an IRS EIN confirmation letter (147c letter) as an additional step. This is not required upfront.
Beneficial owners, shareholders, and control persons
You'll need to identify all Ultimate Beneficial Owners (UBOs), shareholders, signers, and at least one Control Person for your business. Each individual will need to complete their own identity verification (KYC). Shareholders can be individuals or entities. If a company is a shareholder, you'll need to provide corporate documents for that entity as well.
What is a UBO? A UBO (Ultimate Beneficial Owner) is any individual who directly or indirectly owns 25% or more of the company. If your company is owned by another entity, you'll need to look through the ownership chain to identify the individuals who ultimately hold 25% or more.
What is a Control Person? A Control Person is a director, officer, or authorized representative with significant responsibility for managing or directing the business. At least one Control Person is required, even if no individual owns 25% or more of the entity.
What is a Shareholder? A shareholder is any individual or entity that holds ownership in the company. All shareholders should be disclosed, regardless of whether they meet the 25% UBO threshold. If a shareholder is a company, foundation, or trust, you'll need to provide that entity's name, country of registration, registration number, and ownership percentage. You'll also need to provide supporting corporate documents for that entity, such as formation documents and proof of ownership.
What is a Signer? A signer is an individual authorized to execute transactions or sign agreements on behalf of the company. This may overlap with a Control Person or UBO, or it may be a separately designated individual.
What needs to be provided for each individual:
Full legal name: First name, middle name, and last name.
Date of birth: The individual's date of birth.
Residential address: Street address, city, postal code, and country.
Tax identification number: SSN for US persons. For non-US persons, provide your country's equivalent tax ID (e.g., TIN, ITIN, national ID number).
Nationality: Country of citizenship.
Ownership percentage: Their percentage of ownership in the company.
Title/role: Their position in the company (e.g., CEO, CTO, Director).
Role designation: Whether they are a shareholder, beneficial owner, control person, signer, or a combination.
US Person Requirement: SSN β US persons (citizens or residents) must provide their Social Security Number (SSN) as part of UBO/Control Person verification. Non-US persons should provide their country's equivalent tax identification number.
Identity verification (KYC) β each individual completes this separately:
Government-issued photo ID: Passport, national ID card, driver's license, or residence permit.
Residential address: Street address, city, postal code, and country.
Live selfie / liveness check: A real-time biometric verification via your device's camera. You'll be asked to take a live photo or short video to confirm you are a real person and match your ID photo. This cannot be a pre-taken photo.
Proof of residential address: A utility bill, bank statement, or government correspondence dated within the last 3 months.
Liveness Check Tip: The liveness check requires camera access. You can complete it on your phone by selecting "Continue on phone" when prompted. Make sure you're in a well-lit environment and remove glasses or hats for the best results.
Once you've submitted everything, Altitude's compliance team will review your application. During this time, you can still access your Altitude workspace to add team members, configure settings, and set up wallet contacts.
If additional documentation is needed, we'll reach out via email. Most reviews are completed within 2 business days.
