Auto top-up refills your card account from another account in your workspace whenever the balance drops below a minimum you set. Set it up once and your cards keep spending without manual top-ups.
You need permission to propose transfers to set it up, and a card admin manages it day to day.
Set up auto top-up
Open auto top-up from the Cards page.
Pick the account to fund from, the minimum balance that triggers a top-up, the balance to refill to, and a limit on how much can move in any 30 days.
Decide whether the rule should resume on its own after a pause, then propose it.
The rule follows your usual approval flow. Once approved and executed, it checks your balance straight away and tops up if needed. Each workspace has one rule, and the refill balance must be higher than the minimum.
How it works
After each card purchase or settlement, the rule checks your Spendable balance. If it is below the minimum, it moves enough to reach your refill balance – no further approval needed.
Each transfer appears in your card transactions as Auto top-up, first Processing and then Completed once credited. Card admins get an email when it completes.
Only one top-up runs at a time, and funds are spendable once the transfer completes. Manual top-ups still work alongside the rule.
Tip: Set your minimum with headroom for larger purchases and holds. A top-up only starts after a purchase brings the balance below the minimum, so it will not cover a single purchase bigger than what is already there. See How card holds and pre-authorizations work.
Change, pause or disable the rule
Open the rule's details from the Cards page.
Card admins can pause, resume, adjust the minimum and refill balances, and turn automatic resume on or off. These apply immediately.
Changing the funding account or 30-day limit, or disabling the rule, goes through a proposal like the original setup. The current settings keep applying until it executes.
Pausing or disabling does not cancel a top-up that has already started.
Why auto top-up paused
The rule pauses instead of moving a partial amount, and card admins get an email each time. To restart it, fix the cause and resume it – or let automatic resume pick it up at the next card activity.
Not enough in the source account: add funds. Automatic resume applies.
30-day limit reached: any remaining allowance is used first. Wait for the window to reset or raise the limit. Automatic resume applies.
Withdrawal from the card account: the rule pauses when the withdrawal executes. A card admin must resume it.
Paused manually or transfer failed: a card admin must resume it. If it keeps failing, contact support.
Note: Adding funds to the source account on its own does not trigger a top-up. The rule checks again at the next card activity, or immediately when you resume it.
