Altitude Accounting

Sync your Altitude transactions directly to QuickBooks – no more CSV exports

Written by Noah

Altitude Accounting syncs your Altitude account directly with your accounting software. Every transaction lands on the Accounting page ready for review – you confirm the category it belongs to, select Sync, and it's written to your books. No more exporting CSVs or re-entering transactions by hand. It lives under Accounting in the sidebar.

Altitude Accounting works with QuickBooks Online. Xero, DualEntry, and other integrations are coming soon.

Connect QuickBooks

  1. Navigate to Accounting in the sidebar

  2. Select Connect and sign in with your Intuit credentials to authorize the connection. Altitude imports your chart of accounts from QuickBooks – your existing account structure stays exactly as it is

  3. Select accounts – choose which of your Altitude accounts to sync

  4. Map accounts – each Altitude account becomes one bank-type account in QuickBooks. For each one, choose Use existing account to map to an account already in your chart of accounts, or Create new account to add one. Then set the Opening balance date – transactions before this date are not brought in for review

  5. Review and confirm – check each mapping and its Sync from date, then select Confirm setup

Once connected, the Accounting page shows a QuickBooks connected badge and when transactions were last brought in. Select Open settings to update which accounts sync and how they're mapped.

The sync runs one way: Altitude pulls in your chart of accounts and writes transactions out to QuickBooks. It does not pull transaction data from QuickBooks back into Altitude.

Note: Connecting depends on QuickBooks Online being available in your country. Intuit doesn't offer QuickBooks Online everywhere, and connections can only be made from supported countries. If QuickBooks Online isn't available in your region, you can still use Altitude's CSV and PDF exports.

Note: Each Altitude workspace connects to one QuickBooks company.

Note: Map each Altitude account to its own QuickBooks account. Transfers between two Altitude accounts that share the same QuickBooks account can't be synced – QuickBooks rejects a transfer where the source and target are the same account.

Review and sync transactions

Every settled transaction appears on the Accounting page under three tabs:

  • For review – transactions waiting to be synced

  • Synced – transactions already written to QuickBooks

  • Excluded – transactions you've chosen not to sync

Each row shows the counterparty, date, type (Deposit, Outbound, or Transfer), Altitude account, and amount. To sync a transaction:

  1. Select Choose category and pick the account it should post against. The list comes from your QuickBooks chart of accounts and shows only accounts compatible with the transaction's type and currency

  2. Select Sync. The button activates once a category is chosen, and the transaction moves to the Synced tab

Select any row to open its full details – including exactly how it will appear in QuickBooks once synced.

Don't want a transaction in your books? Select to exclude it – it moves to the Excluded tab, where you can restore it at any time with Move for review.

Use the search bar and the Type, Account, and Date filters to work through a busy month faster.

Nothing syncs without your confirmation. Altitude never writes to your books automatically.

Tip: The first time you connect, sync a handful of transactions before working through a full month – that way you can confirm everything lands in QuickBooks the way you expect.

Note: Only settled transactions appear for review. Pending transactions appear once they settle.

Account suggestions

Altitude Agent suggests the right category for your transactions, so most of the list is ready to sync when you open it. Because classification happens inside Altitude – where the counterparty, payment rail, and full transaction history live – suggestions come with context your accounting software doesn't have.

The engine learns from your decisions. Categorize a recurring transaction once, and Altitude remembers the next time the same counterparty and a similar amount come through.

Note: Account suggestions are rolling out to customers over the coming weeks. Until they're enabled on your workspace, you select categories manually.

FAQ

Does this work with my accounting software?

Altitude Accounting currently supports QuickBooks Online. Xero, DualEntry, and additional integrations are coming soon.

Can everyone connect QuickBooks?

Connecting requires QuickBooks Online to be available in your country. Intuit doesn't offer QuickBooks Online in every region, so some customers won't be able to connect. If it's not available where you are, Altitude's CSV and PDF exports still work.

Is this a two-way sync?

No. Altitude imports your chart of accounts from QuickBooks and writes transactions to it. It does not pull data from QuickBooks into Altitude.

Will it change my chart of accounts?

No. Altitude maps to your existing chart of accounts as-is. New accounts are only created when you choose Create new account during setup.

Does anything sync automatically?

No. Every transaction requires your confirmation before it syncs. Rule-based auto-sync for recurring transactions is on the roadmap.

What happens if a sync fails?

The transaction moves to a Failed tab, and its details show the reason. Fix what's flagged – usually the category – and select Retry. A failed sync never writes a partial entry to QuickBooks.

Can I edit or reverse a transaction after it's synced?

Not from Altitude. Once a transaction is synced, make any corrections directly in QuickBooks.

Can I split one transaction across multiple ledger lines?

Not yet. Transaction splitting is planned for a future release.

Will my QuickBooks entries include transaction details or memos?

Not yet. Transaction metadata – recipient name, transaction hash, payment details – isn't included in the QuickBooks entry for now. It's on the roadmap.

What if I connect in the middle of a month or quarter?

That's fully supported. Set the Opening balance date during setup – Altitude posts your balance as an opening entry, whether you map to an existing QuickBooks account or create a new one, and your books are accurate from that date forward.

What happens if I disconnect QuickBooks?

Transactions already synced to QuickBooks stay in QuickBooks – Altitude never modifies or removes them.

Do I still need a subledger?

No. Altitude connects your treasury activity directly to QuickBooks, so there's no need for an intermediary subledger tool.

Do I still have access to CSV and PDF exports?

Yes. See Accounting and reporting for export options.
